Daikin serial number lookup: age of a furnace, AC or heat pump
The serial number is on the rating plate: on the back of an outdoor unit near the valves, or inside the cabinet of a furnace. Daikin furnaces and ducted systems built in the United States use Goodman’s code: the first two digits are the year and the next two are the month.

The first two digits are the year and the next two are the month.
Shape: ten digits with no letters. A few Amana serials have nine.

Goodman’s service bulletin lists the example serial as built on April 11, 2018. One widely copied chart calls the third and fourth digits the week. Goodman’s warranty documents and the serial ranges in recall notices show that they are the month.
Where to find the serial number
On a ducted air conditioner or heat pump the rating plate is on the back or side of the outdoor unit, near the refrigerant valves.
On a furnace or air handler the plate is inside the cabinet.
If the serial number does not decode
- Daikin bought Goodman in 2012. Daikin-brand furnaces, air handlers and ducted air conditioners and heat pumps sold in the United States are built on Goodman’s lines and carry Goodman’s serial layout.
- This page covers ducted equipment only. No source documents the serial numbers of Daikin ductless mini-splits, and the decoder does not read them.
- Some Daikin plates have a separate box marked “Mfg. Date”. When it is there, read it directly.
- The manufacturer can confirm the date from the serial: Daikin registration, warranty or serial lookup.

What size is it?
The model number on the same rating plate gives the size: the tonnage of an air conditioner or heat pump, or the heating input of a furnace. Goodman model number tonnage shows where the digits sit and reads them for you.

Daikin Industries of Osaka, Japan bought Goodman in 2012 and builds Daikin-brand furnaces and ducted systems on Goodman’s lines in Texas. Its ductless mini-splits come from a separate product line with different serial numbers.
