Whirlpool serial number lookup

Whirlpool serial numbers do not follow one rule. The date code depends on the product, so choose the equipment first.

Decode a Whirlpool serial number

Look for “Serial”, “Serial No.” or “S/N” on the rating plate. It is not the model number. What you type stays in your browser.

Whirlpool water heaters

The serial number is on the data plate on the front of the heater. On a Whirlpool water heater the first two digits of the serial are the year and the next two are the week. This is not the code used on Whirlpool appliances.

One format on record: year and week, first four digits (built since at least the late 1990s).

Whirlpool appliances

The serial number is on a tag inside the appliance: on the wall of the fresh-food compartment of a refrigerator, or on the rim of the door opening of a washer, dryer or dishwasher. In a Whirlpool serial the second character is the year and the two digits after it are the week.

One format on record: plant letter, year code, then week (built since 1990).
