Look for “Serial”, “Serial No.” or “S/N” on the rating plate. It is not the model number. What you type stays in your browser.

Ruud water heaters

The serial number is on the rating label on the heater. Ruud water heaters are built by Rheem: since 2012 the serial starts with a letter, then two digits for the week and two for the year. Older serials start with the month and the year.

2 formats on record: plant letter, then week and year (built since 2012); month and year, first four digits (built until 2012 or 2013).

Ruud furnaces, AC and heat pumps

The serial number is on a tag on the back of the outdoor unit or inside the front cover of the indoor unit. Ruud equipment is built by Rheem: the two digits after the last letter in the serial are the week and the next two are the year.

One format on record: plant letter, then week and year (built since the early 1990s).

Ruud was founded in Pittsburgh in 1897 and was bought by Rheem in 1960. Ruud water heaters, furnaces and air conditioners are built by Rheem and carry Rheem serial numbers.
